James Lumsden Bishop, Third Officer of the S.S. Sachem, was awarded the Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society Medal, in bronze, for rescuing an inebriated seaman from West Alexandra Dock, Bootle, on 6 March 1916 - in which endeavour he was assisted by Third Officer C. E. Waldron of the S.S. Bay State, who received a Certificate of Thanks.
