Medals Related to Motoring & Motor Sport, France, Société Anonyme des Pneumatiques Dunlop, 1922, a bronze medal by R. Baudichon, half-length helmeted figure of worker in rubber plantation, holding a cup for rubber sap and a Dunlop Cord tyre, reverse Dunlop factory at Montluçon above a vignette of John Boyd Dunlop, 63mm (BM Acq. 1978-82, pl.34, 9; cf. DNW 44, 971); 40th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Pneumatic Tyre Industry, 1928, a bronze plaque by R. Baudichon, rubber workers in plantation above a view of the Dunlop factory at Montluçon, reverse bust of John Boyd Dunlop with biplane, motor-cycle, car and bicycle in background, 41 x 35mm (cf. DNW 44, 973) [2]. First very fine but with several cuts to rim, second good very fine and patinated (£40-60)

John Boyd Dunlop (1840-1921), the Scottish inventor of the pneumatic tyre, started his business in 1888. The first medal commemorates the opening of the Dunlop factory at Montluçon on 29 September 1922
