M.M. London Gazette 24 September 1942. The recommendation states ‘At Dahar El Aslagh on the morning of 5 June 1942, Lance Corporal Rawcliffe was the driver of the 15-cwt truck attached to the Anti-Tank Platoon. Throughout the action this n.c.o. remained continually in the open under heavy machine gun fire and enabled communications and control to be kept with the Anti-Tank guns. Throughout this period he displayed much coolness and complete disregard to his own personal safety. His courage and coolness under fire were an example to the men of his platoon.’

He was killed in action on 1 September 1942 and is buried at El Alamein War Cemetery, Egypt.
