A Great War ‘Paschendaele Ridge’ M.M. group of four awarded to Private H. Orr, 11th Lancashire Fusiliers

Military Medal, G.V.R. (9814 Pte., 11/Lanc. Fus.); 1914-15 Star Trio (9814 Pte., Lan. Fus.) together with two contemporary news cuttings, good very fine (4) £180-220

M.M. London Gazette 18 October 1917.

One of the accompanying news cuttings states: ‘At the Stockport Borough police Court, this morning, Private H. Orr, Stockport, late of the Lancashire Fusiliers, was the recipient of the Military Medal. The Mayor, in pinning the medal on the breast of Orr, said that it was awarded for work in the battle of Paschendaele Ridge, in which Orr’s Division, the 25th, was engaged, in August 1917. The Division had suffered heavily in the battle. Orr was employed with the Brigade Signal Section in carrying dispatches and messages to and from the line. Orr was one of the fortunate few who went right through the action unscathed.’
