A Great War A.F.C. group of three awarded to Lieutenant J. F. Lawson, Warwick R.G.A., Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force

Air Force Cross, G.V.R., the reverse inscribed ‘Capt., Oct. 1918’, in its John Pinches case of issue; British War and Victory Medals (Lieut., R.F.C.) together with companion set of three miniatures, the Victory Medal possibly officially re-impressed, otherwise very fine or better (6) £700-900

John Francis Lawson was born at Halifax, Yorkshire, on 12 October 1881, and enlisted at Birmingham in August 1914, for the Royal Army Medical Corps. He served in the U.K. at the Southern General Hospital, Edgbaston, Birmingham, until October 1915 when he was granted a commission as Second Lieutenant in the South Midland (Warwick) Royal Garrison Artillery, Territorial Force. He was seconded to the Royal Flying Corps on 19 September 1916, and served in Egypt from that date until March 1917, becoming Lieutenant in April 1917, and Flight Commander in February 1918.
