A first Sikh War C.B. pair awarded to General C. D. Wilkinson, Bengal Infantry, Commanding the 6th Infantry Brigade at the battle of Sobraon

The Order of The Bath, C.B. (Military) breast badge in gold and enamels, with wide swivel-ring suspension but lacking buckle, of the usual high quality but apparently unmarked; Sutlej 1845-46, for Ferozeshuhur 1845, 1 clasp, Sobraon (Lieut. Col., 63rd Regt. N.I.) generally good very fine (2) £1200-1500

Christopher Dixon Wilkinson was born in Bedfordshire on 24 April 1794, and joined the Bengal Infantry in August 1811. He became Lieutenant, March 1816; Captain, June 1825; Major, June 1833; and Lieutenant-Colonel, March 1840. In 1845-46 he served in the Sutlej campaign and was in command of the 63rd Native Infantry at the battle of Ferozeshuhur. At Sobraon he commanded the 6th Infantry Brigade, for which he was made a C.B. (London Gazette 27 June 1846). He became a Colonel in September 1850; Major-General, November 1854; Lieutenant-General, March 1865; and General in June 1870. He retired under the Royal Warrant of December 1877, and died at his home in Belgravia, London, on 4 April 1879.
