China 1842 (William Braund, H.M.S. Nimrod) contact marks and lacquered, otherwise very fine £180-220

William Braund was born at Stoke Damerel, Devonport, circa 1808, and joined the Royal Navy as Carpenter’s Crew aboard H.M.S. Champion in September 1834. He joined H.M.S. Nimrod in October 1835 and signed on for a further commission after her refit in December 1839, continuing in Nimrod until the ship was paid off in November 1844. Braund does not appear to have seen any further service.
