Richard Cobby was an impressed ex-smuggler who served as an Able Seaman aboard H.M.S. Asia at the battle of Navarino. See O.M.R.S. Miscellany of Honours (1981) for an article by the late Captain K. J. Douglas-Morris, R.N., which confirms Cobby as one of the seven N.G.S. medal recipients for Navarino who had served as ‘impressed ex-smugglers‘.
