Mercantile Marine War Medal (John Green); Royal Humane Society, small bronze medal (successful), (John Green, 25th May 1908) lacking ribbon buckle, very fine (2) £80-100

Royal Humane Society Case No. 36,549. Private John Green (28 years), 1st Royal Munster Fusiliers, saved Sergeant Thomas Bride (age 26) from the Cabul River, India, at midnight on 25th May 1908. The Battalion was making a night march and Bride stepped from the road into the river; 7ft deep, strong current, dark night with rain. Green, who at the time was a prisoner, jumped in fully clothed and rescued him, also again going in for his rifle.
