Killed in action at Paardeberg on 17 February 1900. The 9th and 12th Lancers were the only cavalry regiments serving under Lord Methuen and both regiments greatly distinguished themselves at Magersfontein the previous December. He was the only man of the 12th Lancers to be killed at Paardeberg and is commemorated on the War Memorial at All Saints Church, Aldershot.
