D.C.M. London Gazette 17 April 1919: ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations of the 19th September 1918, near Sivri Tepe. He off-loaded his gun from the mule single-handed and brought it into action under heavy fire, thereby enabling his platoon to advance. He went forward himself to within an assaulting distance of the enemy ahead of his platoon, and covered with fire the successful assault of the position. His behaviour throughout was of the utmost value at a critical time.’
