D.C.M. London Gazette 25 August 1917: ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty under very heavy fire. He dug out men who had been buried in a trench by shell fire and dressed the wounded; afterwards, when the trench became untenable, selecting a new position and encouraging the tired men to dig in by his own personal example. He showed the utmost disregard of danger in moving from the old trench to the new one, under heavy fire, bringing up water and ammunition, and previous to the attack he carried out a most valuable reconnaissance. He set a magnificent example to all.’

Edward Henry Edwin Voak was born at Camberwell, Surrey, and enlisted at Battersea, Surrey. He died of wounds in France and Flanders on 24 March 1918.
