Arthur Carrier was born and lived at Ilkeston, Derby, and enlisted at Nottinghamshire. He was originally posted to France on 3 May 1915, being wounded eight days later. After recovering from his wounds he returned to the front line and was killed in action in France and Flanders on 13 April 1917.
