Killed in action at Ladysmith on 6 January 1900.

On this day the Boer forces made their one and only serious attack on the defences at Ladysmith, when they attacked Wagon Hill. It was early morning when they launched their attack on the positions held by the K.R.R.C. on Wagon Hill, and those of the Manchester Regiment at Caesars Camp. The attack was repulsed with heavy losses on both sides, including ten men of the K.R.R.C.
