A Second World War D.S.M. awarded to Stoker J. R. Colburn, Royal Navy, for services with the Channel Mobile Balloon Barrage

D.S.M. London Gazette 6 May 1941: ‘For courage, zeal and devotion to duty while serving with the Channel Mobile Balloon Barrage.’ - Stoker John Bradshaw Coulburn, LT/KX. 116151.

Stoker Coulburn is listed as serving aboard H.M.S.
Haslemere, a mercantile vessel hired as a Barrage Balloon Vessel on the formation of the C.M.B.B. section in July 1940. She was based at Sheerness and operated in the Western Approaches and in the English Channel, providing much needed cover for shipping from enemy air attack. Approximately 18 D.S.Ms. were awarded to this short-lived section which was disbanded in 1943.
