Pair: Corporal S. C. Johnston, 41st (Independent) Commando, Royal Marines, who was wounded in the Choisin Reservoir action, 29/30 November 1950

Korea 1950-53, 1st issue (PO/X.6161 S. C. Johnston Cpl. R.M.); U.N. Korea 1950-54, unnamed as issued, good very fine (2) £500-600

Corporal S. C. Johnston was serving with 41st (Independent) Commando, Royal Marines, attached to the U.S. 1st Marine Division. He was wounded in action at Chosin Reservoir on 29/30 November 1950.

As a member of the 41st (Independent) Commando R.M., he was also awarded the U.S. Presidential Unit Citation bar, for the part the unit played in the ‘Chosin Reservoir’ campaign of November-December 1950, when attached to the U.S. 1st Marine Division. Lieutenant-Colonel Drysdale, R.M., commanding 41 Commando, wrote in his report:

‘This was the first time the Marines of the two nations had fought side by side since the defence of the Peking Legations in 1900. Let it be said that the admiration of all ranks of 41 Commando for their brothers in arms was and is unbounded. They fought like tigers and their morale and esprit de corps is second to none.’

Sold with research including full details of 41 Commando’s many raids and action during the Korean War.
