Pair: Gunner Thomas Tricks, Royal Garrison Artillery, late Royal Horse Artillery

Afghanistan 1878-80, 3 clasps, Peiwar Kotal, Charasia, Kabul (954. Dr. T. Tricks. F/A. R.H.A.); Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., small letter reverse (1353 Gunr. T. Tricks. R.A.) together with original leather bound Account Book, two parchment Certificates of Discharge, an obituary news cutting and two original photographs, light contact marks, otherwise, very fine and better (2) £450-550

Thomas Tricks was born in the Parish of Kenton, Exeter, and attested there on 20 May 1876 for the Royal Artillery, aged 22 years 6 months. He served in India with the Royal Horse Artillery for 16 years, receiving the Afghan war medal with three clasps and the medal for long service and good conduct. After his retirement from the Regular Army in 1893, he acted as Instructor of the old Exeter Battery as a Gunner in the Royal Garrison Artillery. He was finally discharged at Plymouth on 31 May 1906, and died at Exeter in 1944, aged 91 years. He ‘was regarded as a fine type of the old British soldier.’
