Pair: Drummer J. Keane, 57th Regiment

New Zealand 1845-66, reverse dated 1861 to 1866 (3388 Drumr. John Keane, 57th Regt.) officially impressed naming; Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue (3388 Drummer J. Keane, 57th Foot) second with correction to service number, some edge bruising, and contact marks, nearly very fine and better (2) £420-480

John Keane was born in Limerick. A Weaver by occupation, he enlisted into the 57th Regiment at Limerick on 31 May 1855 for a bounty of two guineas. He served as a Drummer, September 1855-May 1868 when he was promoted to Corporal. After re-engaging at Manchester in August 1867 he served until claiming his discharge in July 1884. Keane saw service in Malta, November 1855-May 1858; Aden, May 1858-March 1860; East Indies, March 1860-January 1861; New Zealand, January 1861-August 1867, and Ceylon, December 1873-July 1878. The above two medals were his sole medallic entitlement. With copied service papers.
