Pair: Drummer P. McCartney, 53rd Regiment

Punjab 1848-49, 1 clasp, Goojerat (Drumr. P. McCartney, 53rd Foot); Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 2 clasps, Relief of Lucknow, Lucknow (Drumr. Peter McCartney, 53rd Regt.) both with refitted suspensions, some edge bruising, very fine (2) £700-800

Peter McCartney was born in Newry, Co. Down. He attested for the 53rd Regiment at Newry on 18 July 1844, aged 14 years, 6 months. Served as a Drummer, March 1849-November 1859 when he was promoted Corporal but was reduced for being drunk on duty in February 1865. He was discharged at his own request with a pension at Barbados on 18 March 1870 having served 15 years 3 months in the East Indies; 3 years 2 months in British North America and 5 months in the West Indies. In addition to above, he was awarded the Sutlej Medal for Sobraon. With copied service papers and roll extracts.
