A Late 18th/Early 19th Century Eastern Shamshir the 75 cm slightly curved blade with single broad fuller extending 51 cm with a blued background inlaid with silver gilt leaf and floral decoration, the gilt hilt with leopard’s head finials to the crosspiece tapering panel langets leopard’s head and mane pommel and backstrap the ‘tongue’ of the leopard pierced for a sword knot the whole inlaid with coloured stones (some missing). The extremely ornate scabbard of gilt metal decorated overall with princely hunting scenes featuring elephants, mounted warriors, bowmen, hunting dogs, gazelles etc., the bases of the sword sling swivels feature lions’ masks, the eyes are red coloured stones, one of the quillons has slight damage possibly as a result of meeting an enemy’s sword cut, the scabbard has been rather crudely repaired just below the half way point £1000-1500
