12th Madras Native Infantry Officer’s 1829 Pattern Shako a very fine and extremely rare example, the body of black beaver, the sunken crown, front peak and bracing bands of black patent leather, to the front the standard 1829 pattern gilt back plate overlaid with a silver elongated star, this in turn bears the HEIC lion over laurel sprays and enclosing floreated numerals ‘XII’, correct pattern side ornaments bearing the royal crest, copper gilt chin scales are tied up behind the crown of the shako plate acanthus pattern and gilt ball plume holder and original white wool ball tuft. The majority of the sweatband is present but fractured in several places this bearing the remains of the attached crimson silk fringe, little gilt remains to the chin scales and there are stitching faults to the crown otherwise in remarkably fine condition for the age £3000-4000

Note: The 12th Regiment of all three Presidency Armies had acquired battle honours by this time but the button of the 12th Madras c. 1824 did not display their honour Ava.
