The Zulu War medal awarded to Private William Poplett, 3/60th Foot, the only member of the regiment to be wounded in both the Zulu War and the First Boer War

Private William Poplett was dangerously wounded in the action at Gingindhlovo on 2 April 1879. The 3/60th remained in South Africa after the end of the Zulu War and took an active part in the first Boer War of 1880-81. At the action of Ingogo River (Schuin’s Hooghte) on 8 February 1881, the regiment had 2 officers and 57 men killed, and 3 officers and 60 men wounded, amongst whom was Private William Poplett, by a gun shot in the leg. One officer and four men subsequently died of their wounds. Poplett was the only member of the 3/60th Regiment to be wounded in both of these campaigns.
