China 1857-60, 2 clasps, Taku Forts 1860, Pekin 1860 (Capt. & Lt. Col. John Desborough. No. 4 B. 13th Bde. Rl. Arty.) officially impressed naming, dark toned, nearly extremely fine (2) £600-700

John Desborough was appointed 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery on 18 June 1842; Lieutenant, 6 April 1843; Captain, 15 February 1849; Major, 13 October 1860; Lieutenant-Colonel, 15 February 1861; Colonel, 11 January 1867; retired on full pay with rank of Major-General, 30 May 1877. He served with the Royal Artillery in the China Expedition of 1860, and was present at Sinho, Tangku, capture of the Taku Forts, actions near Tangchow, and surrender of Pekin (Brevet of Lieutenant-Colonel, Medal with two clasps). He was created a Companion of the Order of the Bath on 24 May 1873.
