Francis Edwin Boston was born in Litchfield, Staffordshire, on 19 August 1891. A Miner by occupation, he enlisted into the 54th Battalion at Vernon Camp in May 1915. Arriving in England in November 1915, he proceeded to France in August 1916, and was wounded in a gas attack as the Battalion was moving back to the reserve on 23 July 1918 - suffering mustard gas burns to the left thigh, penis and scrotum. After treatment at the 3rd Canadian General Hospital, he was invalided to England, where he took his discharge in April 1919; sold with copied service and other papers.
