James Ball was born in Wolverhampton on 31 March 1883. A Machinist by occupation, and having previously served for 12 years in the R.M.L.I., he enlisted into the 19th Battalion at Toronto in November 1914. Posted to the 19th Battalion out in France, he was wounded in the face by shrapnel in June 1916 and was invalided to England for treatment. Having recovered and returned to active service, he died of multiple wounds on 22 April 1918 and was buried in the Bagneux British Cemetery, Gezaincourt. He was the son of George and Sarah Ball, of Willenhall, Staffordshire, and the husband of Edith Ball, of 55 Kinrade Avenue, Hamilton, Ontario; sold with copied service papers.
