Thomas Karl De Morest was born in Ontario on 27 May 1895. An Engineer by occupation, he enlisted into the 37th (Northern Ontario) Battalion at Niagara Camp on 24 June 1915. 409563 Private De Morest arrived in England in December 1915 and entered France with the 18th Machine Gun Company in March 1918. Transferred to the 1st Canadian Motor Machine Gun Brigade in June, he was severely wounded on 4 November 1918 during the final advance in Picardy. His wound resulted in the amputation of his right leg and he was invalided to Canada, where was discharged as medically unfit in June 1919; sold with copied service papers.
