M.M. London Gazette 11 February 1919. The original recommendation states:

‘During operations of 2 September 1918 on Cagnicourt, after all his officers had become casualties, he guided, under trying conditions, reinforcements to the guns. By his efforts alone the new Battery Commander was able to keep in touch with his guns. Under intense machine-gun fire he repeatedly went forward and brought back invaluable information.’

George Norman Hopper was born in Shepherds Bush, London, on 27 February 1893. Employed as a Sign Writer, he enlisted in the 66th (Edmonton Guards) Battalion at Edmonton in July 1915 and arrived in England in September 1915, and joined the 10th Battalion in France in March 1916. Transferred to the 1st Battalion Canadian Machine Corps in May 1918, he was awarded the M.M. for the above cited deeds at Battle of Arras in September 1918. Hopper, who was married in England in April 1919, was discharged in August to reside in Newcastle-upon-Tyne; sold with copied service papers.
