Patrick Joseph Travers was born on 10 June 1928 and graduated as a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Glasgow in 1958. Travers was first commissioned on 31 August 1958 and attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in August 1971. He retired from the Royal Army Dental Corps on 2 November 1976.
