Defence and War Medals, unnamed; Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Decoration, G.VI.R., 1st issue, reverse officially dated, ‘1944’ and additionally inscribed, ‘Surg. Lieut. (D) 1927 W. R. Young. Surg. Comnd (D) R.N.V.R.’; Royal Life Saving Society Medal (2), Award of Merit, silver ‘W. R. Young 1917’, with ornate silver brooch bar, ‘Royal Life Saving Society’; another, bronze, ‘W. R. William Young qualified in Dentistry as a L.D.S., R.C.P.S. Glasgow in 1923. Appointed a Surgeon Lieutenant (D) in the Clyde Division, R.N.V.R. in June 1928. Promoted to Surgeon Lieutenant-Commander in June 1934. Retired in 1951 with the rank of Surgeon Commander. In 1948 he was awarded the Fellowship in Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons.
