George Rae was born in Glasgow and enlisted into the Cameron Highlanders at Edinburgh on 8 March 1898, aged 20 years. With the 1st Battalion he served in Gibraltar, October 1899-September 1900 and South Africa, September 1900-October 1902. Transferred to the Army Reserve in March 1906, he was finally discharged on 3 March 1914. With copied service papers.
