Charles Noble Fairburn was born on 31 March 1882. Served in the Second Boer War as an Acting Bombardier in the 39th Battery R.F.A. As a Serjeant in the 40th Brigade R.F.A. he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 19 August 1914. Clasp to 1914 Star confirmed. Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the R.F.A. on 27 November 1916. Promoted to Lieutenant in June 1918, Captain in July 1919 and retired as a Major in October 1920. After the war he became Quartermaster of the Northumberland Hussars. He represented the regiment at the Jubilee of King George V.
