Able Seaman John William Ingram, R.N., was killed in action when serving aboard the battlecruiser H.M.S. Hood, in action with the German battleship Bismarck, at the battle of the Denmark Straits, 24 May 1941, aged 53 years. His name is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Henry Edwin Ingram, of Derby.
