George Aylott was born near Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for the 2nd Dragoon Guards at Manchester on 2 March 1882. With them he served in Egypt, 24 September 1884-8 May 1885, attaining the rank of Corporal in February 1884. He was discharged the service on 30 June 1885, being medically unfit for further service.
