Augustin Ernest Fitzgerald was born on 29 March 1820. Qualified as a M.R.C.S. in 1849. Appointed an Assistant Surgeon, 3 November 1854 and served in the suppression of the Indian Mutiny 1857-58, serving in the advance on Cawnpore, the first relief of Lucknow and defence of Lucknow, September-November 1857. Appointed a F.R.C.S. Ed. in 1859 and promoted to Surgeon in November 1866. He retired from the Army in January 1871 and died at Brighton on 5 April 1888.
