On ‘D’ Day, James ‘Jimmy’ Warnock, together with 29 other men of the 6th Airborne Division, were detailed to land by glider and take the German H.Q. at Ronville and hold it until relieved. This they accomplished with the loss of five men. Post-war he served with the Royal Ulster Rifles in Palestine and was later awarded the Efficiency Medal for service in the T.A. with the North Irish Horse. In 1974 he was serving as Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant with 10 Ulster Defence Regiment in Belfast.
