Richard Meredith was born in Barnsley, Yorkshire and lived and enlisted at Dumfries, Scotland. Serving with the 6th Battalion King’s Own Scottish Borderers he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 12 May 1915. He was killed in action at the battle of Loos on 25 September 1915, aged 25 years.

Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial. He was the son of William and Elizabeth Jones, of Tal-y-Bont, Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, Anglesey.
