William Primrose Sole was born in Cranborne, Dorset on 19 April 1899. A Farm Labourer by occupation, he enlisted into the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in November 1914, being advanced to Boy 1st Class in March 1915. He served on the battlecruiser Princess Royal, March 1915-February 1916; Patia, June 1916-May 1917 and Armadale Castle, July 1917-February 1918. Appointed an Able Seaman in December 1917. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1932.

Henry Ernest Archer was born in Lambeth, London on 12 January 1896. An Invoice Clerk by occupation, he enlisted into the Royal Navy in January 1915 as a Probationary Cook’s Mate. He served on the old battleship
Duncan, July 1915-April 1917. Appointed a Leading Cook in June 1921.
