Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R., narrow suspension (Rd. Churcher, E.R. Artifr., H.M.S. Flora) engraved naming, contact marks, very fine £100-140

Richard John Churcher was born in Bishopstoke, Hampshire on 4 July 1841. A Smith by occupation, he entered the Royal Navy in October 1863, attaining the rank of Chief Engine Room Artificer in June 1882. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1875 when serving on Flora. Awarded the Ashantee Medal 1873-74 for service on Active, January-May 174 and the Egypt Medal for service on Alexandra and Chester, July-November 1882. Pensioned in November 1886; he died in Winchester in 1889. With a number of copied service papers.
