Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R., narrow suspension (Alexr. Polson, Eng: Rm: Artfr: H.M.S. Mariner) impressed naming, extremely fine £80-100

Alexander Polson was born in Edinburgh on 6 April 1855, and was apprenticed as an engine fitter. He joined the Royal Navy as an Acting E.R.A. on 8 January 1878, and joined H.M.S. Monarch on 7 April 1878. He was advanced to E.R.A. in April 1880 and to Chief E.R.A. in May 1890 whilst aboard H.M.S. Mariner, in which ship he had, in February 1888, received his L.S. & G.C. medal. He was shore pensioned on 27 August 1898.

Sold with original parchment Certificate of Service for the period January 1878 to December 1884, and various letters of recommendation. See also Lot 948 for the Napoleonic war medals awarded to his grandfather for service in the 42nd Royal Highlanders.
