Thomas Martin was born in Winterborn Stoke, near Salisbury, Wiltshire. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for the Royal Artillery at Halifax, 1 September 1887, aged 50 years, 9 months, being a member of the 2nd West Riding of Yorkshire Artillery Volunteers and having previously served in the Royal Marine Artillery. With copied attestation papers and roll extracts.
