Joseph Rosamond Adie was born on 22 March 1859. He qualified at University College London, gaining the M.R.C.S. and M.B. in 1884. With glowing testimonials from U.C.L. he entered the Indian Medical Service, being appointed a Surgeon in October 1885, Surgeon-Major in October 1897 and Lieutenant-Colonel in October 1905. He retired with an extra pension on 22 March 1914 and died at Ambala on 24 January 1915.
