Italy, Christopher Columbus, 1922, a large bronze-gilt medal by A. Cappuccio for Johnson, after Prof. L. Pogliaghi, bust left, allegorical figures around, reverse St George on horseback preparing to spear the dragon, DE ORBIS TERRARVM, etc., 102mm (cf. BDM IV, 635 and VII, 482; cf. Baxter 90; cf. BDW 1, 728). Extremely fine and very rare; in red fitted case of issue by Johnson (£100-150)

The obverse is taken from the medal by Cappuccio for the quatercentenary of the discovery of the New World by Columbus, issued by Johnson in 1892.
