Four: Commissioned Gunner T. Driscoll, Royal Navy
Africa General Service 1902-56, 1 clasp, Somaliland 1902-04 (T. Driscoll, P.O. 1st Cl., H.M.S. Hyacinth); 1914-15 Star (Gnr. T. Driscoll, R.N.); British War and Victory Medals (Gnr. T. Driscoll, R.N.), official correction to rate on the first, generally very fine or better (4) £250-300

Thomas Driscoll was born in Co. Cork in February 1879 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in August 1894. Advanced to Petty Officer 1st Class in May 1903, shortly before joining H.M.S. Hyacinth, he was subsequently present in the Somaliland operations and, in October 1910, was appointed to the commissioned rank of Gunner.

Serving aboard the destroyer H.M.S.
Virago on the China Station on the outbreak of hostilities in August 1914, he removed to torpedo boat destroyer 35 in July 1915 and thence, on returning to the U.K., to the greyhound-class destroyer Roebuck, from August to November 1916. He then served in the B-class destroyer Seal until March 1917, when he removed to H.M. monitor 27, in which capacity he served in the Dover Patrol until the War’s end - a period that witnessed M. 27’s presence in the second Ostend raid in May 1918 and her part in several bombardments of enemy batteries at Westende. Driscoll was placed on the Retired List in February 1929 and died in March 1936.
