Six: Pilot Officer J. Wright, Royal Canadian Air Force, killed in action over France, 8 July 1944

1939-45 Star; France and Germany Star; Defence Medal, Canadian issue in silver; Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, with overseas clasp; War Medal 1939-45, Candian issue in silver, all unnamed; Canadian Memorial Cross, G.VI.R. (P.O. J. Wright J89895); Birks Memorial Bar, ‘P/O J. Wright R.C.A.F. Died in his Country’s Service 8 July 1944’, this in card folder; together with an ‘Air Cadets Canada’ enamelled lapel badge; ‘61 Air Cadets Canada’ ring; a R.C.A.F. sweetheart brooch set with paste stones and an Air Stewardess badge, medals extremely fine (11) £300-350

Pilot Officer (Air Gunner) James Wright, R.C.A.F., from Toronto, Ontario, was killed in action on 8 July 1944, aged 19 years. Serving with No. 9 Squadron, in Lancaster ‘JB 116’, his plane went down 19 miles east of Dieppe, during a night operation against St. Leu d’Esserent, France. He was the son of Albert and Marion Wright, of Toronto. He was buried in the Millebosc Communal Cemetery, France.

With documentation including: a letter from ‘Jim’ Wright to his father living at ‘23 Rosevear Ave., Toronto, Ont., Canada’, dated 10 March 1944 - during the time of his training; letters to Mrs Wright (2) from women whose son/husband served in the same aircraft as that of her son; letter of condolence from the Canadian High Commissioner - Vincent Massey; letter to Mr J. A. Wright, dated 31 May 1945, stating that for official purposes, his son had died on 8 July 1944; Canadian medal forwarding slip; booklet on the mounting and wearing of medals; cards (2) re the Memorial Cross; a letter from the Imperial War Graves Commission; Air Cadets Souvenir Christmas Card 1943 - with pull-out photographs of aircraft; Canadian Servicemen’s Leave Guide for London booklet.With a photocopied photograph of Pilot Officer Wright.
