D.C.M. London Gazette 17 January 1916; citation 11 March 1916. ‘7910 Serjeant T.P. Finegan, 1st Battalion, Connaught Rangers’ ‘For conspicuous gallantry when he was one of those who advanced far towards the enemy trenches, only being stopped by very severe cross fire from rifles and machine-guns, and by the fact that nearly all the other men were either killed or wounded. Later in the day he displayed great bravery in assisting the wounded who lay in front of the enemy’s trenches, exposing himself freely to heavy fire whilst doing so.’
