Captain W.J. Finlay of the S.S.
Fanad Head of Belfast received the silver medal for saving the crew of 31 of the Norwegian S.S. Ontaneda on 12 January 1921 in the North Atlantic in a fierce N.W. gale. The King of Norway awarded a silver cup to Captain Finlay and in addition the Norwegian owners presented him with a gold watch. He also received the Emil Robin award of the same Society for the most meritorious rescue for the year 1921.
