The Natal Light Horse was an irregular regiment of the South African Armed Forces formed by Colonel John Robinson in August 1914. Their first action was against General Maritz who had recruited men for the German cause. In this action the Natal Light House successfully captured the rebel camp but Maritz, although wounded escaped. Their next action was at Kheis Drift where they caused 40-50 enemy casualties. After this successful encounter they were shipped to Luderitz in South West Africa where they became part of a ‘Flying Column’.

Clarence Cooper first joined the Suffolk Regt and then transferred to the Royal Munster Fusiliers.With copied m.i.c.

John Chapman enlisted into the South Staffordshire Regt but later transferred to the Labour Corps With copied m.i.c.

John E. Cowie was a member of the 21st (Service) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. This was the 2nd Tyneside Scottish Bn, a ‘Pals’ Battalion raised by the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, which went to France as part of 102 Bde 34th Division in January 1916. John Cowie was awarded the Silver War Badge. With copied m.i.c.

Arthur Cadman landed with the Warwickshire Regiment in 1914 and so qualified for the 1914 Star. With copied m.i.c.
