The Indian Mutiny Medal awarded to Corporal A. Consani, 2nd Military Train, killed in action at Azimghur, 15 April 1858

Alfred/Anthony Consani was born in Bristol in 1835. He enlisted into the Army as Private 3420 in the 34th Regiment in 1853. With them he served in the Crimea War and was slightly wounded during the first attack on the Redan, 18 June 1855. Consani transferred to the Military Train in July 1856 as Private 308 and was subsequently promoted to Corporal. Served in the supression of the Indian Mutiny with the 2nd Battalion Military Train. He was killed in action at the ‘Victoria Cross’ engagement at Azimghur, 15 April 1858. His name is commemorated on the memorial to the 2nd Battalion Military Train in Bristol Cathedral.
