Samuel Juniper was born in Strood, Kent, c.1832. He served with the 90th Light Infantry in the supression of the Indian Mutiny, being a member of the ‘1st Relief Force’ at the defence of Lucknow. After his military service for which he was awarded a medal with two clasps, Samuel Juniper joined the Metropolitan Police Force on 27 November 1865; serving until 29 November 1888. In 1890 he was living at ‘1 Chester Place, Plumstead, Kent’, and as an ex-Constable in the Woolwich Dockyards Division, Metropolitan Police, he wrote to the Secretary of State to complain about a perceived injustice in the police pension he was being awarded.
