Auction Catalogue
[Anon], English Coins and Tokens, c. 1845, a neatly handwritten and copiously illustrated guide to coins from William I to William IV, 250+pp, including 17th century tokens [of Kent], notes on determining the differences on coins of the Chester and Leicester mints, and text drawing heavily on the previous writings of Folkes, Snelling, Leake, Lindsay, Ruding, Till, Akerman, Hawkins, Marshall and others, including transcripts of contributions to early volumes of the Numismatic Chronicle and the Gentleman’s Magazine. Contemporary blue leather, marbled endpapers; the binding somewhat distressed but the volume intact and a useful record, particularly the engraved illustrations £150-250
The cataloguer speculates that the volume may have a connection with the Kent numismatist H.W. Rolfe (1778-1859), who is mentioned as the owner of one of the coins depicted in a rubbing at the back of the book
